FEDERAL LOANS

STEP 1

It all starts with the FSA ID. You and your parents need an ID  before you fill out your FAFSA. Watch the video below for assistance.

STEP 2

FAFSA

To qualify for student aid in the United States, you must complete the FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

The U.S. Department of Education uses the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for federal student aid, including low-cost loansgrants, and work-study. The FAFSA may also determine your eligibility for state and school aid as well.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FASFA is available beginning October 1st of each academic year.

Need extra support with your FAFSA. See the document below.

SCHOLARSHIPS

With rising college costs it becomes increasingly more difficult for students to earn a degree without a boatload of debt too! The world of scholarships is abundant and at the same time, OVERWHELMING! Seems there is a scholarship for any and all attributes. The resource for scholarships we find most helpful is Fastweb. This is an easy way for you to keep track and manage scholarships for yourself.  The key is to start early, like Freshman year. Start stuffing your college piggybank early.

  A word about scholarship SCAMS!!

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. These are just a few reasons to be suspicious of a scholarship offer :

  • You must pay a fee (any fee) to apply for the scholarship.

  • You must provide a credit card number or your bank or savings account information to apply for the scholarship.

  • You don't need to do anything (or do very little) to apply.

  • The offer "guarantees" that you will be given a scholarship.

When in doubt contact the guidance office and we will help you determine if the scholarship is legitimate.

Local Scholarships

Each spring Bloomsburg high school has several local scholarships available to our students. Please make sure you check in the guidance office for deadlines

Remember that seniors must complete the Senior scholarship survey to be eligible for our local scholarships. The link is on the senior page.

PA STATE GRANT

A grant is a type of financial aid award that you don't need to repay, as long as you meet all of the eligibility requirements. To be considered for a Pennsylvania State Grant, you must fill out the FAFSA® (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and complete the Pennsylvania State Grant Form. Most renewal students do not have to complete the State Grant Form.
