Clubs/Activities that have Pre-Requisites
Band -Band - Mr. Marmo 016. Prerequisites: Ability to play a concert band instrument (woodwind, brass, or percussion) and attend band camp for marching band. Electronic instruments such as guitar, keyboard, and bass, will be used at the director’s discussion and only during the marching season. During concert band, these students must perform on a traditional band instrument. This course is meant as an extension of the elementary and middle school band program. This ensemble participates in the Tournament of Bands marching band competition, performs at all the football games, in several parades throughout the year, and in Fall and Spring concerts. Attendance at all performances is required.
Jazz Band - Mr. Marmo 016. Prerequisites: Ability to play a traditional jazz band instrument and audition for the ensemble. Open to all high school students; the ensemble is reselected by audition every year. Ensemble members will be limited to two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones, one baritone saxophone, four trumpets, four trombones, one-two pianist, one-two bassist, one-two guitars, and two percussionists. All students must be conformable with reading standard music notation and have a well-developed, concrete knowledge of their instrument. Exceptions to the instrumentation will be made at the director’s discretion.

Chorus performs has four performances during the year: Veterans’ Day, Holiday Concert, Spring Concert, and the Pops Concert
Class Officers-Students in each grade level have an opportunity to run and be elected as an Officer for their Class.

Fusion– Mr. Latsha 009
Fusion is a select mixed choir that features approximately 20 singers. Fusion performs throughout the community performing classical repertoire, Broadway show tunes, jazz standards, and contemporary popular music. Members of Fusion must be members of the chorus to participate.
High School Musical-Mr. Latsha/Mrs. Heckman 009/Gym
The high school musical is open to students in 9th through 12th grade that performs to large crowds for three or four performances during the first weekend of March. An audition is required. Typically, the auditions will happen the second or third Saturday of November. Rehearsals are held after school and evenings. Students of all ability levels can be involved in the show.
Tech Crew for High School Musical-Mr. Latsha/Mrs. Heckman 009/Gym
They help with the running and designing of the lighting and sound for the show as well as the construction of the set and props. Be ready to be involved when you join this group!

Membership requirements in the BHS Junior Honor Society include an overall GPA of at least 92% and current enrollment in at least one Honors or one AP class during the current school year. This applies to Sophomore Class members as of the end of the first semester
Technology Club Advisor: Mr. Burrell Library
Students in the Bloomsburg High School Student Tech Club assist in the 1:1 Surface Pro 3 device initiative. Volunteer members are expected to be a resource to students and teachers in using educational technology. Students are expected to staff a tech help desk, pilot and create tutorials on various tech tools, and support student and teacher need in the Makerspace. To become a new member complete the online application form, essay, and interview.

Environmental Club Advisor: Miss Marsicano
The Environmental Club is responsible for the execution of the recycling program at Bloomsburg Area High School. Students collect and consolidate recycled items which are then collected by the town of Bloomsburg. The club also tries to conduct a spring environmental project in recognition of Earth Day.
BASD Outdoors Club Advisor: Mr. Yates 105
The Outdoors Club organizes 2 Fall trips and 2 Spring trips for students to experience some outdoor adventures. Possible activities involve paddling, biking, hiking, and fishing. Respect and responsibility is a requirement of all club members while out on a trip. Proper clothing, snacks, sunblock, etc. is generally the responsibility of each student. Trips may be physically demanding in some cases.
FBLA Advisor: Miss Burns 100
The mission of FBLA is to “bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.” Each year students will select one competitive event and spend time studying/preparing for their event before their test in December. Events can be an individual, team, or only for students in the 9th or 10th grade. Students will attend the Regional Leadership Conference where they can attend workshops and network with other FBLA members from our local area.

The Bloomsburg High School Forensics Team is a speech and debate team that competes at tournaments throughout the year. Each team member competes in a single event which accumulates points for the team. There are over a dozen events that range from a dramatic reading of poetry to performing a humorous scene from a play to one-on-one values debate to impromptu speaking.

Interact gives students ages 12-18 the chance to make a real difference while having fun. Every Interact club carries out two service projects a year: one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.

Technology Students Association (TSA) – Marshall 006 - This club gives students the opportunity to challenge and compete against other students in technology-related competitions that range from dragster design to Video Game Design. There are over 30 different technology-related competitions that students can expand their engineering skills and challenge themselves against student peers at the regional, state, and national levels. It would be extremely helpful if the students hoping to excel in this program enrolled in at least one of the engineering courses offered at the high school.
National Robotics League- Marshall 006- Students design, engineer, and manufacture robots to compete in a gladiator-type competition against other robots built from other schools across the nation. To be involved it is highly recommended that the students take the Robotic Design course offered at the high school. The skills learned in this class will significantly increase your chances of being successful in this robotics competition.
Culinary in Action- Mrs. Plyler Room A105
Culinary in Action is a club that encourages students to practice kitchen safety while learning to cook and have fun! This club is perfect for students who love to be in the kitchen. Students will be able to practice their cooking and baking skills while selling and having fun.
Chess Club- Mrs. Hintz -Room 108
This club is for students interested in playing chess after school. This club will try to meet twice a month. No previous experience is necessary.
Students for Social Awareness: Mrs. Callahan -Room 212
This club is for students who are interested in promoting respect for all students. The purpose of this club is to raise awareness and through civil discourse, allow students to promote a safer, more inclusive school. This club will allow students to enrich their academic experiences by participating in activities that develop a broader understanding of our community and our culture.
